"My NYC Crit Club course lit a fire under me. It gave me the fresh eye on my work that I’d been needing, and ideas about how to take the work forward. I so enjoyed the dynamics of the class and the interactions with the critics. They were able to quickly get to the heart of what each artist in the group was trying to do, and to make suggestions in a supportive way. I found that hearing what they had to say about others’ work was as helpful as comments about mine. Catherine Haggarty’s insight was exceeded only by her kindness and encouragement. "I joined NYC Crit Club when it began in 2017. Since then I have attended without a break. There were only around 7 of us in Hilary's tiny studio. Catherine joined soon after. Their fierce honesty, dedication, and passion have made it the truly unique organization that it is. "As someone who did not go to grad school, NYC Crit Club has been an incredibly important touchstone in my artistic practice. It has given me the opportunity to get feedback on my work from artists that I greatly admire, and allowed me to make connections with peers that last after the critique semester comes to an end.
