"My NYC Crit Club course lit a fire under me. It gave me the fresh eye on my work that I’d been needing, and ideas about how to take the work forward. I so enjoyed the dynamics of the class and the interactions with the critics. They were able to quickly get to the heart of what each artist in the group was trying to do, and to make suggestions in a supportive way. I found that hearing what they had to say about others’ work was as helpful as comments about mine. Catherine Haggarty’s insight was exceeded only by her kindness and encouragement. I can’t wait to see what courses are coming up for the next semester."

"I joined NYC Crit Club when it began in 2017. Since then I have attended without a break. There were only around 7 of us in Hilary's tiny studio. Catherine joined soon after. Their fierce honesty, dedication, and passion have made it the truly unique organization that it is. The experience has greatly expanded my understanding of how we create but, most importantly, it has created a vital community of artists that will endure."

"Both in group classes and targeted ISP’s, it’s been so exciting to connect with Crit Club faculty who approach me as a peer, who immediately zero in on what makes my work ‘mine’ and where to develop it, really down to the nuts and bolts of artmaking. The energy throughout the Crit Club community is both challenging in substance and super supportive. I feel so appreciative of this community and full of admiration for the new artist friends I’ve found here."

"As someone who did not go to grad school, NYC Crit Club has been an incredibly important touchstone in my artistic practice. It has given me the opportunity to get feedback on my work from artists that I greatly admire, and allowed me to make connections with peers that last after the critique semester comes to an end. When I’m lacking in inspiration or structure, I know that it’s time to sign up for another class. These courses have pivoted me back to a productive path time after time - providing me with professional critiques and introducing me to many talented peers and their work. I cannot recommend NYC Crit Club enough! "

"NYC Crit Club provides effective, supportive feedback while offering many opportunities for developing community. The balance on offer -- exceptional instructors, a wonderful cohort, affordability, online classes -- is nothing short of revolutionary. For me, participation has been life changing."

"Since joining Crit Club in 2019, I have taken every kind of session: critique, writing, professional practice, and theory. Each has helped me become a better artist. I have had critiques in artist studios all around New York City, group trips to exhibitions, and then lively meetings on Zoom. I saw progress in my paintings that would have taken me years longer to discover on my own. I am forever grateful to Hilary, Catherine, and my friends in Crit Club. In addition to their feedback and support of my work, they showed me a myriad of ways one can be an artist in the world. This kind of quality and supportive community is crucial to any artist––and art at large. Crit Club is a shining example."

"My time at the Plum Lime Residency was like a dream. It allowed me to have the space to host visits, expand my practice, and experiment with new processes and materials. Who knew giant windows and natural light could make such a goddamn difference. Wow."

"Plum Lime Residency provided a huge space with bright natural lights and a high ceiling. It was a perfect space to figure out installations for future exhibitions and invite people over for studio visits. I was also introduced to great people through the program - thanks to Catherine and Hilary!"

"My time at the Plum Lime Residency went above my expectations. Having the time to work free of distractions, but also having the support of Catherine & Hilary, made my month there a pleasure."
