About This Course
Explore how galleries discover artists and what gallerists seek in this comprehensive 6-week course, 'The Visiting Critic Program'. Gain valuable feedback, exposure, and opportunities to connect with four respected art world professionals.
Led online via Zoom by artist Joani Tremblay, the course connects artists from around the world. Each Visiting Critic will introduce themselves with a presentation and Q&A session. Artists will showcase their work through online slideshows, and receive feedback from Joani Tremblay, the curated Visiting Critic, and fellow participants.
This program is designed to inspire new directions in your work, thinking, and process. All sessions will be recorded, allowing artists to review talks and critiques, with chat logs available for reference.

Artists Will:
- Participate in a class size of 10 artists max
- Meet for 6 weekly, 3 hour classes online on Zoom
- Connect with 4 art world professionals, including artists, writers, curators + gallerists
- Enjoy weekly open discussions by Visiting Critics about art world topics
- Have work paired with critics who are the best fit for their work and practice
- Receive 4+ opportunities for critiques & feedback. Two long 20 minute critiques with a Visiting Critic, faculty and class + two shorter crits/presentations at the start and end of the semester with faculty and class
- Collaborate with artist peers in Zoom studio visits outside of class (optional)
- Get weekly prompts + challenges to reinvigorate each artist’s approach and artistic practice
- Website / Social Media and email blast advice and content will be shared
- Best practices in communication, consignments, representation, exhibitions and more will be discussed
- End the class with Faculty Joani Tremblay for continued dialogue on these topics or a chance to show a new piece or work that has been made / use the space for an open forum to tackle art world related questions

Mentor Bio
Joani Tremblay is a visual artist based in the Mojave Desert near Los Angeles and Montreal, Canada. She received her MFA from Concordia University, and she is a former lecturer in painting, drawing and digital arts at Concordia University, Montreal and the Université du Québec à Montréal. Joani was the co-founder and curator of Pangée Gallery, Montreal, and is on the board of the Montreal Pictura Painting Triennial. She has been represented by Harper's Gallery in New York since 2019 and have exhibited internationally since 2011, including at The Mint Museum, Charlotte; James Cohan, New York; Acquavella Gallery, Palm Beach; Harper's, New York; Anat Ebgi, Los Angeles; Bradley Ertaskiran, Montreal; Marie-Laure Fleisch Gallery, Brussels; Zalucky Contemporary, Toronto; and 3331 Arts Chiyoda, Tokyo. She participated in residencies in New York, Los Angeles, Berlin and Tokyo. Her work as notably been featured and reviewed in Two Coats of Paint, New York; Metal Magazine, Barcelona; FAD Magazine, New York; Artsy Editorial, New York; Arte Fuse, New York; Metropolis M Magazine, Netherlands; Esse arts + opinions Magazine, Montreal; Border Crossings Magazine, Winnipeg; Cap&Design, Sweden; and GalleryTalk, Berlin. Her work can be found in numerous permanent collections, including the Center of International Contemporary Art, Vancouver; Collection Loto-Québec, Montreal; Royal Bank of Canada Corporate Collection, Toronto; the Danjuma Collection, London; Xiao Museum of Contemporary Art, Rizhao, China; and The Mint Museum, Charlotte.
