The Lumin Wakoa Scholarship for Artist Parents

$2,000 scholarship offered to three artist/parents in each Canopy Program cycle.

  • Have applied to a canopy cohort

  • Are an artist parent

To apply:

  • Apply to a Canopy Cohort

  • In the canopy application, check “The Lumin Wakoa Scholarship for Artist Parents” when asked, “Would you like to apply for a scholarship?”

  • Share how being a parent affects and inspires your studio process (150 words max.)

  • Share how you feel that your artmaking and studio practice helps make the world better for the next generation (150 words max.)

 

It is with deep respect for Lumin Wakoa's artistic legacy and her experience as both a dedicated painter and parent that we wish to offer The Lumin Wakoa Scholarship for Artist Parents. This scholarship provides encouragement and support to artist parents, recognizing the unique challenges they face in balancing their creative practice with the profound calling of raising children.

Lumin Wakoa passed away in 2025 at the age of 43, after battling brain cancer (ArtNews). She is lovingly remembered by her friends, artistic community, and by her family including her husband and two daughters.
