Course Description

This studio class is held in-person at our Brooklyn studio. This class is perfect for students who want to expand their knowledge of drawing as a preparatory process AND as fully realized artwork. Different modes of drawing are explored, including working from observation and abstract drawing. Demonstrations on perspective, gesture, proportion, processes, and techniques are introduced in exercises that strengthen understanding of fundamentals, while opening new doors for future work. Dry media is covered in classes 1-4. Ink and ink washes are covered in classes 5-6. Experimentation is encouraged! Artists will produce over 25 drawings both inside and outside of class, at a variety of speeds from very fast to very slow. Artists are required to bring work to class three times for critiques.

In this class:

  • Produce over 25 drawings

  • In-person classes at our Brooklyn studio

  • Collaborate with peers outside of class in small groups

  • Receive 3 opportunities for critique of work done outside of class

  • Weekly prompts that energize and expand your drawing practice

  • Engage fundamental skills and learn new ones!

  • Connect with a supportive community of drawing artists

  • Learn about the work of drawing artists

  • A visiting artist whose work is drawing-based will present their work.
