Michael Berryhill’s Cohort Artists

This Cohort of Artists were accepted to the 2023 Canopy Program year. For three consecutive semesters,
they worked together and with their Faculty Mentor, Michael Berryhill, to develop their studio practice.

Elephant Mining

Studio 9D

508 W 26th St. #9D
New York, New York

"The elephant in the room," symbolizes glaringly incomplete, lingering, unaddressed or uncomfortable truths that demand acknowledgment. Elephant Mining involves a deliberate excavation to bring these latent ideas to prominence. It is the fore-fronting of unspoken values, unaddressed issues, suppressed emotions, and things that have remained hidden in our studios in plain sight. As an exhibition, Elephant Mining is the collective process of owning, confronting, and revealing for each of the eight artists their respective "elephant in the room”.

Guest Speakers + Visiting Critics

Each semester, Michael Berryhill’s Cohort received Artist Talks, Lectures, Workshops
and Visiting Critiques from an esteemed roster of Guest Artists + Speakers.
